The Greene County Ram wrestlers finished fifth of nine teams at the South Hardin wrestling tournament Jan. 17 in Eldora. The Rams had two champions and one runner-up. One Ram finished in third place, two in fourth place, and three in sixth place. A dozen Rams wrestled at the tournament.
Champions were senior Jordan Challen (138 lbs) and junior Tommy Bradshaw (145). Both went into the tournament seeded sixth in Class 3A. Challen had falls in all three matches and improved his season record to 22-1. Bradshaw had two falls and a 13-7 decision. He is now 20-2 on the season.
Senior Abe Yoder (132) finished second, picking up his 100th career victory with a fall in the opening round. He topped number 10 rated Carter Barkema of Hampton-Dumont in the semifinals but fell by a 6-2 decision to number 6 rated Nathan Macki of Ballard in the final round. Yoder is 23-4 on the season.
Freshman Kane Borgeson (106) placed third and freshman Isaac Ireland (120) and sophomore Hunter Ruth (195) placed fourth. Sixth place finishes came from sophomores Isaiah Yoder (160) and George Zito (285) and junior Keyden Pollock (170).
Ballard (Huxley) won the team title with 214 points. Other point totals were Denver-Tripoli 155.5, Iowa Falls-Alden 138.5, Aplington-Parkersburg 129.5, Greene County 116, Clarksville 109, Hampton-Dumont 105, the host South Hardin/BCL-UW (Eldora) 83, and Central Springs (Nora Springs) 73.
